As I reach the end of this module, I pause to look back on the adventurous journey I have gone through, and overall, I have very positive thoughts. This course has enhanced my knowledge but also, my insight into community health and the relevance of the social determinants of health.
The effect of community participation in the promotion of health was one of my most exciting findings. Having read about various approaches of community members’ participation in the processes of making decisions, I experienced a revelation on the strength of the mobilization. It was touching to learn that changes and improved health could be possible without actually waiting for authorities and other organizations to do it.
The most powerful learning moment for me was in the implicit bias module. Participating in the healthcare survey regarding implicit bias was a profound experience. It compelled me to accept my prejudices and understand how they could affect the care I administered to patients. This has made me be on the lookout for all means possible to lessen the bias in my practice, not to mention the fact that I aim to provide care equally to every person.
Besides, working on my and discussions added to my learning experience. Different voices made me rethink some of my ideas and helped me in comprehending the complexities of health issues better. As I take my next step, I feel that I have been endowed with a number of tools and insight that will assist me in the health field. I intend to utilize the skills that I have acquired, most importantly, to develop inclusive spaces and promote health equity.
To sum up, this course has turned out to be more than educational, but has social purposes that compel individuals towards making a positive change in the health of populations. I am eager to pursue this in the future, with information at hand and filled with zeal to better the lives of people.
